Stepping Out
Lisburne aims to provide opportunities for children to develop as independent, confident and successful learners with high aspirations who know how to make a positive contribution to their school community and wider society. There is a high focus on developing children’ moral, spiritual, social and cultural understanding. We ensure that children are well prepared for the next phase of their education and for life in modern Britain.
Lisburne prides itself on being a highly inclusive school. We believe that all children can be supported to develop the skills they need to succeed, now and in the future. In order to support all children to develop these skills, we offer highly personalised learning opportunities, which support them on their journey to becoming successful independent learners.
We believe that communication is the key that unlocks all other learning for children, and for this reason we place reading and communication at the heart of our curriculum. We ensure that early reading skills are systematically developed to support children to develop the skills they need, alongside systematic opportunities to develop their language comprehension through their engagement with quality texts. We believe in the importance of investing in inspiring texts for children to enjoy. Lisburne use high quality fiction and non-fiction texts – linked to subjects across the curriculum – to further enrich our broad and balanced wider curriculum.
We believe in the importance of time spent in the outdoor environment to ensure that children develop their understanding of the their world. Outdoor learning offers our children the opportunity to engage with the rich diversity of the natural environment and this helps to build confidence, sensitivity, resilience and curiosity. Children are further supported to become independent learners who are inspired to try out their own ideas, explore their own interests, to attempt new things and to take risks through our “Stepping Out” enrichment booklet.
