Inclusive Practice
Inclusive practice at Lisburne, is driven by a commitment to the whole child and involves these core principles:
Individualised and Ambitious Curriculum: The curriculum is highly adapted and differentiated to meet specific, complex needs. We strive to deliver a curriculum that enables every pupil to make meaningful progress from their individual starting points to reach their potential.
Holistic Provision and Support: We use a range of interventions and strategies, including specialist therapies (Speech and Language, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy), sensory integration, and assistive technology, to support pupils' communication, cognition, social-emotional development, and physical needs.
Full Participation and Belonging: All students are actively enabled to participate in the school community. This includes making reasonable adjustments to allow access to non-academic activities like school trips, residentials, performances, and extra-curricular clubs, fostering a strong sense of belonging and friendship.
A 'Can Do' Culture: Leaders and staff adopt a positive and flexible mindset, seeing difference as a strength and actively seeking ways to adapt the environment and teaching methods to meet the needs of our children.
Strong Partnership: There is a clear, collaborative approach involving the pupil, their family/carers, and external professionals (e.g., health, social care) to ensure consistency and shared goals, often formalised through Education, Health and Care (EHC) Plans.
All of this is summarised within our 5 Principles of Learning, demonstrating that Lisburne school is designed around the diverse needs of its pupils so they can flourish academically, socially, and emotionally.
