Dance
Children at Lisburne have access to a weekly dance session lead by a Specialist Dance Teacher and supported by our Dance Education Lead.
Dance provides a rewarding and motivational experience for all children and our own bespoke programme allows staff to incorporate curriculum links into both whole class sessions and 1:1 support. This can include the development of SALT, PSHE and also core subjects. This supports teachers with monitoring and assessing individual targets.
We have a wonderful, fully accessible dance studio that houses a full wall immersive system which is incorporated into sessions to provide a full sensory experience.
Dance sessions Include:
Intensive Interaction
An approach to teaching the pre-speech fundamentals of communication to children who have severe learning difficulties and/or autism and who are at an early stage of communication development. The 7 stages of Intensive Interaction are used as a guide to assess and monitor the children’s development.
Contact Improvisation
An evolving system of movement based on the communication between two moving bodies that are in physical contact. Practice includes rolling, falling, supporting and giving weight to a partner.
Sherborne
Sherborne Developmental Movement is an approach to teaching and working with movement that is both accessible and relevant. The two basic objectives of Sherborne are awareness of self and awareness of others.
Performance
At Lisburne School we are proud to be able to showcase our children’s skills of dance through our performances. We hold a range of productions throughout the year. All children are included and parents and carers enjoy seeing their children express themselves through movement.
